Speaking

Marshall has experience speaking in front of a wide range of audiences including numerous businesses, universities, professional and medical conferences, outdoor groups, non-profit fundraising events, training clinics, and various public and school groups.

Here's what they're saying!

Marshall delivered a message which matched the core values of Yellow Book. Task skills are the basics of our business but without great leadership and execution, goals can not be achieved. Marshall's presentation was also based around other values such as integrity, morality, and ethics which are the platform beliefs which have launched our company to the National recognition we have achieved. His desire and determination to achieve dreams was transferred to our management and sales team. From the team, we would like to thank Marshall for guiding us to success in Salt Lake.

I saw you speak at the [Wilderness Medicine Conference evening presentation]  and I wanted to just thank you for sharing a most amazing story.  I know we all have our Mount Everest's around which our visions for ourselves become elaborated. Your ethics, morality, and empathy shone throughout as your vision crystallized into reality.  Thank you again.

Marshall Ulrich is probably one of the best presenters I have ever experienced, and I have sat through my share. Very few of us internally generate what refer to as "vitamin M" - motivation. Unlike most forms of motivation that wear off in a few days or weeks, I continue to enjoy and apply the impact Marshall had on me two years after I heard him for the 1st time! What really did it for me was his humble and sincere nature, his unfathomable accomplishments all combined with the fact that he understands the responsibility of sharing ones blessings with those less fortunate. If you want to succeed in "The Triple Crown of Life" then apply Marshall Law, in what ever form you experience it in!

Thank you once again for coming to Santa Fe [to speak at the Wilderness Medicine Conference] and for doing an outstanding job. I hope you will come again.

The entire Yellow Book Salt Lake City Area sales team left the mountain “on a cloud!” I especially appreciated how honest and open Marshall was with this team. Marshall has pure endurance and a mind set of steel, and was able to share this with the sales team is such a motivational fashion. His message was the right one, given at the right time, to the right team.

Publications

Marshall has written a wide range of stories and articles for various publications, and has been featured in numerous books, newspapers, and magazines; and on television, radio programs, and Web sites for more than 20 years. Here are just some of the comments about his writing!

Today I quietly read Marshall's various writings. Not surprisingly, all of his stories are wonderful. They take one away into his world. What more could a story want to do? Thanks for sharing his writings with me. My favorite, of course, is Everest [his daily journal].

I much enjoyed your cover story [in the September/October 2006 issue of Marathon & Beyond]. It's awfully hard to write about yourself and your accomplishments without coming off self-serving or maudlin; I thought you walked that tightrope nicely.

I have been a subscriber to Marathon & Beyond since inception and have considered Marshall's articles [Badwater Solo, Badwater Quad, and Transformation articles] to be among the best of that tremendous publication.

Fantastic article in [the Sept/Oct 2006 issue of] Marathon & Beyond! Thanks very much for telling us about yourself. I have long been inspired by your exploits. One day soon, I will run Death Valley. I want to find what is out there, what you, Benyo, Provost, and others know already. One day...

WOW!! I kept thinking: not only can this guy survive incredible physical and mental demands, this guy can write! When Marshall retires from all this extreme physical endurance he should write for [a national magazine]. Re: chapter about Marshall's experiences in adventure racing, contributing author, The Thrill of Victory, the Agony of My feet.

Wanted you to know how much I enjoyed reading your latest story Transformation of an Adventure Runner. [M&B Sept/Oct 06] I ran in India with you back in 1993. We were there for the 100 mile stage race that Force 10 Expeditions put on that year. My, how much you have done since! I continue to try to get answers from inside. Not always an easy thing to do but always better than not trying.

Marshall's article [in the Sept/Oct 2006 issue of M&B] was excellent. What I like most about him is how genuine and open he is. I get the impression that what he shows the world is exactly who he is. If only more people were like that and realized what is really important in this life. His statement, "I realized that stepping outside of yourself and doing for others is the true essence of life." is a truth that many live their whole lives without discovering.  It is the relationships with others, the chance to do even the smallest thing to help someone, the positive impact you can have on others and they on you, that is important. Another good point was when Marshall answered the question about what you accomplish by summiting Mount Everest by saying, "Not much, unless you learn something along the way." It is the journey that has meaning and there are so many journeys in this life that we have a chance to learn from and teach others, both positive and negative Marshall's article was very well-written and he has so much to teach others. He not only raises money for the Religious Teachers, but he follows their philosophy [to "Go and Teach]!

Fundraising

Marshall continues to raise money to promote the real work of peace and justice completed by the Religious Teachers Filippini. The Sisters of the Religious Teachers work to promote the dignity of women and children in some of the poorest countries in the world, and here at home, by providing an education to those who previously had limited opportunities and choices in their lives. More than that, the Sisters also help provide the necessities of life: water, food, shelter, and clothing. See the Fundraising page for more information on how you can help!

Here are some comments about Marshall, the humanitarian.

A Letter from Mother General
We were touched to receive the following letter from Sister Mary De Bacco, M.P.F., Superior General, regarding Marshall's fundraising efforts for the Religious Teachers Filippini associated with is climb of Mount Everest and other endeavors.

Dear Marshall,

I feel I know you in a profound way, heart to heart. You will never know the good you have done to so many poor mothers and children of Ethiopia and Eritrea who have been given life through your generous spirit. Your strenuous climb to the peak of Mount Everest (even honoring us by placing our Institute flag in that remote spot!) and your 4x Badwater Run...all done to help the most destitute of peoples, is admirable beyond words. Each mile of the journey was one of strenuous work and painful sacrifice, as we can well imagine. The Sisters here followed you with their daily prayers, and waited for the news bulletins that Sister Mary Beth would deliver to us as soon as they arrived. We were honored to be a small part of this marvelous endeavor, even if only from a distance, but close in heart to what you were doing for our poor people.

A starving child hovering close to his mother who can do nothing for him but love him, is so pathetic a sight, it tears at your heart. Many of these children would have died, but because of the hope and concrete help of your generous and sacrificial spirit, they now have a chance.

If you only could see in your mind's eye, the hope you have given these destitute people! A near starving child, sometimes made to wait, to give priority to a starving child, asks for a glass of milk and is no longer turned away because now, thanks to you, we not only can supply food for hundreds of people, but also have a milk fund that will never go empty.

Marshall... may God bless you with his most perfect gifts, love and peace of heart!

Sincerely in Christ,
Sister Mary De Bacco, M.P.F.
Superior General

Other Testimonials to Marshall's Generous Spirit

All the good you have done, and all that you have accomplished. There is no proper way to thank you for all your sacrifices for the children. Thanks to your efforts these little souls (children in Eritrea and Ethiopia) go to school and get fed in body, mind, and soul. Thank you for always including the women and children in your efforts. Know that you are always in our prayers. Thank you again so much for all that you have done for us.

I feel fortunate for the opportunity of knowing you in person. It's hard to find adequate words that could fully express my gratitude to you, not only for the all that you do for us but, above all, for what you are. Your generosity, your sensitivity, your open mind and heart are sources of renewed energy for us who try to alleviate the suffering of so many poor people. Indeed your concrete work for peace and justice gives hope for a brighter and more peaceful future. I wish you well and I assure you of my prayers, my gratitude, and my affection. You have enriched us greatly!!

Sister Mary Beth had the following message for Rory and Janis Vose, Heather Ulrich's parents, who were introduced to the Sisters' work through Marshall.

Dear Rory and Janis, Thank you so very much for your very generous gift. I will use your gift to help us start a pizza course in Adigrat, Ethiopia. I have a retired Italian gentleman that is going to Adigrat...he will build the ovens with the local men...and teach the Sisters how to make some great pizza. This site is on some property outside the mission so that we can sell the pizza to passer bys.The older orphan girls will be the first to learn and when they finish the course if they like we can set them up in their own business or they might get a job at a local restaurant.

Thank you again.Be assured of our prayers for all of your intentions!
God bless you.
